The last weekend of August marked an exciting occasion in Palm Cove with the 2025 Cairns Surf Life Saving Carnival, which took place on Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31. The event was hosted by the Cairns Surf Life Saving Club and coordinated by Surf Life Saving North Queensland (NQB). Over the two days, attendees experienced high energy, a strong sense of community, and intense competition.

Two Days of Action

The carnival welcomed athletes ranging from Under 8s to Masters, featuring a comprehensive schedule of surf and beach events. Competitors participated in various disciplines, including board racing, ski events, surf races, ironperson competitions, beach sprints and more.
Safety at the Forefront
As always, safety was a top priority. Thank you to all those that were water safety, IRB drivers and crew, jetski drivers, and those who helped set up safety.

Community Spirit and Fun
The carnival brought together clubs, families, and friends to celebrate surf life saving. A key highlight was the “Green Cap Fun Day” on Sunday, which encouraged younger members to participate and promoted an inclusive atmosphere.
Looking Ahead
The Cairns Carnival is just one stop in the NQB 2025 Surf Sports Calendar, with plenty more excitement still to come:
Ellis Beach Carnival: 13–14 September
NQB Branch Championships, Port Douglas: 11–12 October
Followed by the North Aussies and other major end-of-season events
